Insurance
Services Office, Inc. (ISO) is the leading supplier
of statistical, actuarial, and underwriting information
for and about the property/casualty insurance industry.
ISO provides advisory services to more than 1,500
participating insurers and their agents. The company
is licensed to perform these services throughout
the United States, and maintains one of the largest
private databases in the world.
One
of ISO's primary services is Engineering and Safety
Service (E&S). E&S is the industry's leading
source of vital loss control information. Since
its formation in 1866 as the National Board of
Fire Underwriters, its mission has been to help
customers better identify, evaluate, control and
eliminate hazards in commercial accounts.

E&S
provides technical reports, legislative and regulatory
information, consultative assistance, and educational
programs in areas ranging from toxic materials to
crime prevention - for the protection of the environment,
workers, insureds, and the public. E&S staff
also represents the industry through active participation
in national standards committees and boards. E&S
offers educational programs and informational conferences
on many issues, such as construction safety, fire
safety, environmental or industrial hazards, security
liability, and workplace safety.
ISO also puts its E&S database on CD for convenient
"anywhere" access. "We developed
our E&S safety data on CD product because people
are on the road all the time, and can't make a serious
Internet connection," said William F. Hauswirth,
CPCU, Senior Vice President, AISG Technical Advisory
Services, a unit of ISO.
For searching its CD E&S database, ISO recently
chose dtSearch. "We switched over to dtSearch,
because it had an easier development environment
and better navigation functionality," said
