dtSearch Case Study — DocuVantage

DocuVantage EDM Finds an Advantage in dtSearch

“We chose dtSearch because of its fast indexing, fast searching, document parsers, and hit-highlighting.”
Document Advantage Corporation (DocuVantage) expertise combined with software and hardware technologies offer business productivity applications centered on proven electronic document management and workflow software. With an impressive customer list, and well over a dozen years of experience, DocuVantage offers secure, integrated enterprise-class document management and workflow solutions for every organization or department.

DocuVantage’s core Electronic Document Management (EDM) system manages an organization's critical information through information capture, document imaging, and document management. Information capture includes receiving, processing, and managing electronic information in native file formats. Document imaging includes scanning, indexing, storing viewing, and annotations. DocuVantage’s EDM also includes check-in/check-out, version control, and document handling. DocuVantage EDM is both Web-based and cross-platform (Windows/Linux).

“Some of our customers index millions of documents in one repository.  dtSearch allows us to have very large indexes … It was easy to integrate, easy to configure, and very VAR friendly.”

DocuVantage’s EDM system additionally encompasses full workflow functionality. Explains DocuVantage’s Web site: “You can watch as documents flow from one workstation to the next. Based on your observations, you can determine how to eliminate unnecessary processes, enhance quality control, improve customer satisfaction and speed delivery of products and services.”

Further, DocuVantage’s EDM system is fully browser-based. As DocuVantage’s Web site explains: “With secure web browser-based access you can enhance any intranet or website by providing access to your information. Whether you wish to publish document-based content to your website, or empower remote users, your organization will have the competitive advantage.”

For text retrieval within DocuVantage’s EDM system, DocuVantage chose the dtSearch Text Retrieval Engine. “We chose dtSearch because of its fast indexing, fast searching, document parsers, and hit-highlighting,” said Dave Wiggins, Chief Technology Officer of DocuVantage. “dtSearch offers a flexible and fast search engine.”

DocuVantage also relied on dtSearch’s advanced search features. “We liked dtSearch’s advanced searching features such as Boolean searching, wildcards, synonym, fuzzy, phonic, stemming, variable term weighting, and the ability to adjust the dtSearch noise word list.” Following dtSearch integration, DocuVantage customers can now “search for documents by words and phases contained within the document. They can use the structured index fields to narrow the search results to a specific subset of the documents.”

The scalablity of the dtSearch Engine was also a critical factor. “Some of our customers index millions of documents in one repository. dtSearch allows us to have very large indexes as well as having the ability to setup multiple indexes that can be combined in a single search.”

Finally, from the integration perspective, “dtSearch included well-documented APIs for most modern languages including C++, Java, and .NET. It was easy to integrate, easy to configure, and very VAR friendly.”
