We
successfully used dtSearch on a wide variety
of input and output formats, including HTML,
XML, and PDF. dtSearch's multilingual support
was key for the European Parliament project.
And dtSearch's categorization support was
essential as well.

The
European Parliament covers approximately 375 million
citizens in 15 countries. The Minutes of Proceedings
and Report of Proceedings of the European Parliament
have to reach a wide audience, in many languages.
The European Parliament tasked DBiT to synthesize
these reports, and then output the data both to
the Web and to CD, all in instantly searchable,
multilingual format.
For providing search access to this data, DBiT
chose the dtSearch Text Retrieval Engine. “For
the European Parliament, we successfully used
dtSearch on a wide variety of input and output
formats, including HTML, XML, and PDF,”
said Marc-Olivier Lifrange, Commercial Manager,
DBiT. ”dtSearch's multilingual support was
key for the European Parliament project. And dtSearch's
categorization support was essential as well.”

We
used XML as the underlying database solution
to integrate dtSearch full-text and meta searching.
The result is highly-precision searching for
end-users accessing the European Parliament
data.

DBiT's Web site explains in more detail what such categorization generally
entails from an information management standpoint:
“Our categorisation tool automatically includes
all the internal and external information on the
basis of your own classification system (taxonomies).
Therefore, whatever the source of a document,
it will be analysed and classed automatically
using a common logic defined by your organisation.
The automatic categorisation works in parallel
with the document distribution. It provides an
additional field of research.”
DBiT integrated categorization relevant to the
European Parliament's document collections with
the dtSearch Engine's full-text searching. “We
used XML as the underlying database solution to
integrate dtSearch full-text and meta searching,”
explained Mr. Lifrange. “The result is highly-precision
searching for end-users accessing the European
Parliament data, both across the Web and from
CD.”
